His Royal Highness Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa chaired the 532nd Government Executive Committee (GEC) meeting this week, where discussions focused on the progress of Bahrain’s tourism sector strategy and new government-led innovation initiatives aimed at improving public services across the Kingdom.

During the meeting, the committee reviewed the latest developments surrounding the implementation of Bahrain’s 2022–2026 tourism sector strategy, one of the country’s major economic diversification plans designed to strengthen Bahrain’s position as a regional tourism and leisure destination. The strategy covers multiple areas including tourism infrastructure, hospitality growth, cultural and entertainment experiences, and increasing the sector’s contribution to the national economy.

Officials also discussed the continued expansion of tourism-related projects and initiatives as Bahrain works to attract more international visitors, support local businesses, and create new opportunities within the hospitality and travel industries. The tourism sector has remained a major focus area for the Kingdom in recent years, particularly as regional competition for leisure, business, and event tourism continues to grow.

The meeting also spotlighted the winning concepts from the seventh edition of the Government Innovation Competition, widely known as Fikra. The annual initiative encourages government employees to submit creative ideas and practical solutions that can improve efficiency, modernize services, and enhance the overall public experience across government entities.

The competition has become one of Bahrain’s key innovation platforms within the public sector, with several previous winning concepts later being developed into implemented projects and service improvements. This year’s selected ideas were reviewed as part of the government’s wider efforts to promote innovation-driven development and strengthen collaboration across ministries and agencies.

The Government Executive Committee continues to play a central role in overseeing national priorities, monitoring strategic programs, and reviewing initiatives tied to Bahrain’s long-term development goals. With tourism growth and innovation remaining high on the national agenda, the latest meeting reflected the Kingdom’s continued push toward economic diversification, modernization, and improved government performance across multiple sectors.
